Question Title Posted By Question Date
praying with our guardian angel Linda Sunday, October 31, 2004

Question:

Dear Brother;

Thanks so much for answering my questions. I hope you are feeling better and able to work more. We continue in prayer for you. Forgive me for asking another question but here it is :)

Months back I started praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy at night for all those dying during the night. Then I had the idea to ask my Guardian Angel to pray with me and say the responses as I was saying the Chaplet myself. I would ask my Guardian Angel to join me and start the first part of the prayer and I would wait the time it would take to say it before replying with the last part of the prayer, just as if you were saying the Chaplet with someone.

Recently I stopped doing this as I wondered if my Guardian Angel could say the parts of the prayer that asks for mercy. ( "have mercy on us and on the whole world") If the Angel already chose for God and is in Heaven, then would he ask for mercy? How about if I ask my angel to reply to the end of the Hail Mary prayer? Can the angel pray to Our Lady to pray for us sinners.....? Angels aren't sinners!

So do you think all these thoughts have come to me to discourage that practice of praying with my Guardian Angel or because God might not want me praying this way?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+

Dear Linda:

Thanks for your prayers; it is greatly appreciated.

While the angels are not sinners and are not doing to die, when they say the last part of the Hail Mary, they would be praying it for you. While the angels are in a state of bless and beatific vision, when praying for mercy, they pray it for you and the whole world.

I do not think there is a problem. If I remember correctly St. Bernadette of Lourdes prayed the rosary with our Blessed Mother.

God bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
