Fr. Robert Bailey & Paranormal Warriors of St. Michael. | Joseph | Friday, March 9, 2012 |
Question: Brother, I read this article in Michael Brown's Spirit Daily website titled "WHILE TENDENCY IN CHURCH CAN BE TO MINIMIZE EVIL, BIBLE SPELLS OUT MANIFESTATIONS, REMEDY". At the end of the article, there were some reference links including this one: "[see also: advice on protection from priest who combats spirits]" and, upon clicking there, it took me to this page . I looked at the page and the priest, Fr. Robert Bailey (https://www.facebook.com/Network.PWSM) who is the pastor of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Pawtucket, Rhode Island (https://www.facebook.com/groups/113513560390/) seems to be sincerely into spiritual warfare but, looking at his PWSM website, I was disturbed to see a mixture of good Catholic orthodoxy, prayers (including some from your parayer catalog) and sacramentals with Warren/Buell/ghost-hunting/paranormal TV show stuff. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r)
Dear Joseph: I cannot add much more to what I already said about this group and Fr. Bailey. I cannot recommend either as there are definitely some lack of judgement here. The good Father's association with the ghost hunting groups is very problematic. In addition, I noticed that he lists as resource some of the most questionable people in the field, such as the Hammonds book, Pigs in the Parlor. Mrs. Hammond had an alleged revelation from God about schizophrenia in which "God" gave her a definition of schizophrenia that is wrong. I think God knows the correct definition of schizophrenia. This proves 100% that Mrs. Hammond is a not hearing messages from God. He also lists Malachi Martin who gives incorrect information about exorcism, and John Zaffis, who is among the Warren dingalings, and Ed & Lorraine Warren themselves. Lorraine, a supposed Catholic, calls herself a "psychic." Now to be fair, Father lists a lot of very good resources too. We are very interested in developing a network of deliverance counselors, but it is very difficult because there are so very few who have their heads on straight. One Catholic deliverance person, who is now retired, thank God, thinks that if one dies and is revived, as in a after-life experience, the person must be re-baptised. This is an actual heresy. There is a Luthern deliverance person in Des Moines that actually thinks demons can be saved and returned to heaven. Talk about looney. This field attracts some of the most loony-tune people. And, as is a danger for anyone, some of these people start out okay, but then are seduced into nonsenical theories about things. Buyer beware, especially people even remotely associated with the Warrens, the theories the Warrens proposed as absolute facts, and any of the so-called ghost hunting show. All of the Ghost Hunting shows, that is 100% of them, have incorrect theories, questionable practices, and sometimes extremely dangerous practices. They are all to be condemned. The sorrow is that Fr. Bailey is, I believe, well intentioned. He has many very good resources, and uses sacramentals and many good prayers. But, his lack of judgment converning who he associates with and on what resources he uses is the key. One cannot have such lack of discernment and judgment when doing spiritual warfare. Bottomline: As it currently stands, I cannot recommend Paranormal Warriors of St. Michael. I would be very wary of those in his Network. God Bless,
