"What color are your wings," it said... | Joseph | Thursday, March 1, 2012 |
Question: I have a Catholic priest who is also an exorcist as my spiritual director. I told him the following story, but there was something he could not give me an answer for (And he confirmed this as a case of possession, by the way). Any idea what this meant? Did it think I was an angel? Could there have been an angel there protecting me that it was actually talking to? |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r), L.Th., D.D.
Dear Joseph: Well, first, it sounds like you need to avoid this person. It is dangerous to deal with possessed people unless you know what you are doing. You can even find yourself demonized if you are not careful. As for wings: Angels (and demons) are spiritual creatures. They have no body, and thus no wings. Angels and demons can, however, appear to us in any form. We have the story of the two angels visiting Lot in Sodom. They appeared as ordinary men. An angel may appear to a person with wings because that is how the person thinks of angels and appearing that way will be comforting to them. Demons can appear as red monsters with pitch forks if that is the image that will scare a person. But, in actuaity, neither angels or demons have bodies material bodies. This being the case, the demon would not perceive an angel with wings. If this was the demon talking, we first must remember to never trust anything they say. Demons, by nature, are liars and con artists. One motive of a demon talking about non-existent wings might be to pique your curiosity for whatever reasons. At best, the reference wings and to the color of wings is symbolic. For example, the color of black can represent evil and death. The color blue can mean hope, healing, and grace. White can mean purity, righteousness, holiness. In this symbolic context the demon may have been asking you to see the color of your own wings (your spiritual life), that is, to judge your own holiness or lack thereof. The motive of a demon, however, would be to get you to cast doubt in your own relationship with God. But, since the demon did not specify and we are not allowed to ask questions to demons like that, I would just let it go. God Bless,
