I have asked God for signs before does that mean I am evil? Lisa Sunday, October 10, 2004

Question:

I thought that Jesus was saying asking for signs to test the Lord.I am in a bad situation in alot of areas and I have asked the Lordto give me asign so I do the right thing(meaning his will).I hope I haven't totally offended God.I know in my life I have already caused him much grief I certainly do not want to cause him anymore.

I am still trying to hear that still small voice and be able to discern whether it is my voice or his.I have had abusive relationships and have felt God is the only one I can trust.I grew up Church of Christ and Converted to Catholicism. Please pray for me,I want to be close to the Lord I do not want to offend him. Please email me with your response,I am not sure how to talk to him now.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+

Dear Lisa:

No, you are not evil because you have asked God for a sign. In times of great tribulation it is a natural thing for human beings to want something tangible for direction on which way to go. But we need, rather, to have Faith and to listen closely for His voice.

God does not usually give us such overt and obviously signs, but He does give us the clues and urgings and promptings needed for us to follow His will.

Talk to God. Tell Him your concerns, feelings, and fears. Go before the Blessed Sacrament and bathe in the rays of the Son. In addition to talking to God, also just sit there quietly before the Blessed Sacrament in the Tabernacle and let Him commune with you.

If you have a trusted friend, or perhaps your pastor, it may be good to talk to them too for their advice about your situation.

Remember, God is a loving Father, not a demanding taskmaster. He understands what you are going through. He will not abuse you or lead you astray. Go to Him as the perfect Father and empty your heart and find the healing that you need.

We will be praying for you,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
