Past Involvement in Occult and Photo of Ex-Boyfriend Marian Monday, September 26, 2011

Question:

Dear Brother,

I use to dabble with spiritual items such as lighting candles for good luck or money, buying oils to bathe or cleanse my home with and burning incense. I also did Protection rituals to ward off enemies, but never anything to harm anyone.

The reason I stopped was because one day I was in an occult/religious supply store that sold these types of candles and goods and there was a female customer who was asking a staff member about a candle and certain love ritual she wanted to do to obtain a particular man's affections. After hearing this, I felt somewhat strange whereas I looked around the store and at all of their items and immediately left.

I wasn't sure what was happening at the time, but later realized the Holy Spirit wanted me to give up these false things that I had been doing and give my life to Jesus Christ; in which I threw away all candles, incense, oils and anything related.

I began been reading my bible on a regular basis, reciting Holy Catholic/Christian prayers and attending Church services when possible and most of all I have asked for God's forgiveness.

However, even though I have renounced my involvement with occult-like matters, I feel that some things have not improved. For instance, I have some minor health ailments that I have been praying about and there is no change. Also it seems like every time I try to move forward or set a specific goal, an obstacle is put in my path.

I also dated someone who did spells for money or good luck, but after realizing that this was not the way God wants me to be, I broke up with him and have prayed that when the time is right, God will send me the right partner to share my life with. However, I have photos of my ex-boyfriend and I want to know if I can burn them as I no longer want that attachment in my life.

Because of my involvement with these things of my past do you think God has forgiven me or am I being punished for my actions? Or is it possible the enemy is causing difficulties for me?

I will continue to walk in the right path, but could you give me some advice about this matter.

God Bless,
Marian

Question Answered by

Dear Marian:

I praise God that you have left occult activities.  If you have asked God for forgiveness then God has forgiven you for these things.  Whenever we are sincerely sorry for our sins, wish to repent of them, and confess them to God, He is always faithful to forgive:

(1 John 1:9) "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just, and will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

God keeps his promises.  He does not lie.  Therefore, you can be assured and know that you are forgiven when you sincerely and genuinely confess your sins to Him.

While these sins are forgiven the consequences of the sins can still remain.  The harassment that you are experiencing is a consequence of the sins of the past.  In addition, since you were involved with someone who cast spells it would be wise to pray the Breaking of Spells and Curses prayer found in the Spiritual Warfare Catalog linked below. Other prayers that I would advise include the Hedge Prayer Protection, Rebuking Particular Spirits, and any other prayer you find in the Catalog that you find useful.

There is never a guarantee.  God may allow you to be harassed in order to make you stronger in the faith.  He did this with St. Paul. But, these prayers ought to be of help.

To do the best you can to resolve these consequences of your past sins you need to be as close to God as you can be.  Do all the things that good Christians should do, such as going to church every Sunday, praying every day, reading and studying your bible, and doing good works of love.

If you live the Christ-life as best as you know how and include in your prayers these special spiritual warfare prayers you may find of relief from the harassment.

As far is the picture of your former boyfriend is concerned there is no problem burning it.

We will be in prayer for you.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
