Voice of Mary? Kathy Wednesday, February 23, 2011

Question:

I was praying the rosary and I heard the voice of a woman in my head. She said, "My son can help you with that." Another time, she said, "It's not your fault," and "You can come to my garden any time." Could this be the voice of Mary?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r)

Dear Kathy:

There is no way for me to know that. You need to discuss this with your spiritual director or your confessor to help you discern what is happening.

Generally speaking, our Blessed Mother certainly can speak to us in this way. All such experiences, however, must be tested. If any voice tells you anything that is even remotely imprudent or contrary to Church teaching and discipline then the voice is not from heaven. Our Blessed Mother will never lead you astray even a little bit.

I would recommend that you pray to God as ask him to take away this voice if it is not from heaven. If the voice continues then perhaps it is legitimate, maybe. Always test what is said by the voice against what is true and excellent and consistent with everything the Church teaches and requires. Double-check with your confessor or spiritual director to be sure all things are correct.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
