Question: Dear Brother, I am a psychologist and i wrote to you over the summer about demonic activity at the domestic violence shelter i am currently working at. It was very helpful, thank you so much. To start out.... i only told one coworker about my writing you last summer. So it is strange that about two weeks after your reply, a parent of a child i see (age 6 who was sexually abused by a great aunt and uncle...i had been working with her for one year) came into my office concerned that her daughter was seeing things. She stated that her daughter (my client) keeps stating that she sees a little girl, named Vanessa, and Vanessa's dog. When i asked about this little girl in our therapy session, my client stated that the girl was pushed out a window and died and just sits there in her room and doesn't talk. Now i know for a fact, after working with this client for a year that she is not delusional or hallucinating....she has some anxiety issues and some hyperviligiance with older adults, but no psychotic symptoms. About two months ago, a adult client (who has sexual abuse and domestic violence in her past) explained that her 11 year old son (witnessed domestic violence, but not sure if sexually abused) recently failed a suicide attempt and was hospitalized for about 1 month in a children's psychiatric hospital (i think he was diagnosed with adjustment disorder and major depression?). As we continued our conversation, we got off track and she talked about her son waking up in the middle of the night and seeing a blonde young woman at the end of the stairs telling him it is not time to wake up. She also explained that the doors in her home keep opening and shutting on their own. The family is a little freaked out. In both instances i strongly suggested they get their homes blessed (again without my boss knowing because i work for a secular agency and she seems to be anti-religion) The mother of my 6yr old did take my advice and had her house blessed and has not had any problems since. Now that my eyes are wide open, i have a question: Is it possible that I could bring home some of the demonic attachments that clients may be carrying? I have two children at home and i would be terrified if this were possible. I do have two blessed crucifixes about my front and back doors. i also try to get my children and i to confession on a regular basis. If i couldn't bring them home, could they linger in our offices? (We have a shelter and a counseling center). Thanks so much for your assistance. Hope
Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r) Dear Hope: I praise God that we were helpful to you in the past. The "imaginary friends" that children have may be the normal imagination, or a psychotic symptom, or the can be their Guardian Angel, or can be a demon. When the experience is not imagination or a psychotic symptom it can only be, with one exception, either the child's Guardian Angel or a demon. The exception is that it is possible for God to permit a grandmother or other person the child may love who is deceased to visit the child for comfort and support. This often happens when child is undergoing severe sexual or other abuse. But, otherwise, most alleged human spirits who appear to the child in these situations are demons in disguise. Obviously, a demon appearing to a child will usually appear in a pleasing form, at least at first, as to not scare the child away. Having the house blessed is good advice. I praise God that was effective. The other advice you can give, if the house blessing is not effective is to direct people to our Help page, specifically to our Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance. You can print those seven steps if you wish and hand it out to people. For those who are not Catholic, the portions that are specifically Catholic in nature can be edited. Also is the Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog. It is common to have demons hanging around any situation of sexual or other child abuse and domestic violence. The devils reviles in these issues as they disrupt and destroy the family bonds of parent and child, and the bonds between spouses. As the family is the fuller picture of the image of God, the devil does all he can to destroy this Image found in the human family. Given the environment of your practice, you may often come across demonological issues with your clients. As for taking home demonic hitchhikers transfered to you from clients who have demonic attachments or bondages, it is possible, but there is nothing to fear. God is greater than the devil. I would advise you, as a matter of course on a regular basis, or when you specifically know about demonic problems with a client, to pray the Professionals Hedge Prayer of Protection: In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Trusting in the promise that whatever we ask the Father in Jesus’ name He will do, I now approach You Father with confidence in Our Lord’s words and in Your infinite power and love for me, and with the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, the Blessed Apostles Peter and Paul, Blessed Archangel Michael, my guardian angel, with all the saints and angels of heaven, and Holy in the power of His blessed Name, as ask you Father to protect and keep me, my family, and my practice from the harassment of the devil and his minions. Father I ask that You build a hedge of protection around me, my family, and my practice like that which surrounded Job, and to help me to keep that hedge repaired and the gate locked so that the devil and his minions have no access or means to breach the hedge except by your expressed will. Father, I know that I am powerless against the spiritual forces of evil and recognize my utter dependence on You and Your power. Look with mercy upon me. Do not look upon my sins, O Lord; rather, look at the sufferings of your Beloved Son and see the Victim who’s bitter passion and death has reconciled us to You. By the victory of the cross, protect me, my family, and my practice from all evil and rebuke any evil spirits who wish to attack, influence, or breach Your hedge of protection in any way. Send them back to Hell and fortify Your Hedge for our protection by the blood of Your Son, Jesus. Send your Holy Angels to watch over and protect me, my family, and my practice. Father, all of these things I ask in the most holy name of Jesus Christ, Your Son. Thank you, Father, for hearing my prayer. I love You, I worship You, I thank You and I trust in You. In the Name of the Father, and the Son, + and the Holy Spirit. Amen. When you make the sign of the cross, bless yourself with Holy Water. You should also bless your office with Holy Water, as well has your house, on a regular basis. Bless yourself each day before you go to work, and again at any time of the day if it is needed.
