I fear for my son, could he be possessed? | Jan | Sunday, October 17, 2010 |
Question: I am a healthcare professional, and in speaking with other healthcare professionals who specialize in dealing with people who have drug and alcohol addictions, they have also described similar occurrences with other addicts such as previously described by Debbie regarding her son. These other healthcare providers speak of experiences with other addicts who, apparently no matter which drug they choose to use, describe similar incidents of being surrounded and taunted by demons. I guess what I’m asking is, is there any evidence out there to suggest that there could be a correlation between drug use leaving a person more open to demonic influence/attack, or is it strictly a matter of a demon attaching to an existing problem? |

Dear Jan: The answer you are referring to about Debbie's son is located here. That was way back in 2007. Folks, please be sure to give me the URL of previous answers so I can look them up without having to search for them. Thanks. There is plenty of clinical evidence that drug leaves a person vulnerable to "spirits." Studies have been done with aboriginal peoples who use drugs for this very purpose. Clinical evidence in counseling, in particular deliverance counseling, show this possibility. I believe that demons are always hanging around drug and alcohol addiction, or around anyone who is intoxicated, precisely because of the spiritual and mental vulnerability that intoxication creates. It is interesting that in the Galatians 5:20 the Greek word "pharmakeia" is translated as "witchcraft" in the Douay-Rheims Bible, and perhaps more accurately as "sorcery" in the New American Bible and the Revised Standard Version-Catholic Edition. The Greek word, pharmakeia, is the word we derive the English words pharmacy and pharmacist. Sorcery is a grave sin. It is an abomination to God (Deut. 18:9-12). Sorcery is related to witchcraft in the witchy practices of using herbs and other bio-materials in concoctions for spells and hexes. In a sense, in addition to witches who concoct their potions for spells and hexes, I think we can also consider illegal drug manufacturers and drug pushers the modern day sorcerers. Anything that intoxicates us, or makes our will vulnerable, such as hypnosis, some Eastern meditation practices, and New Age relaxation techniques, and the like, can be exploited by demons. Thus, demons have a vested interest in tempting us to any sort of intoxication or altered state of consciousness. Demonswill certainly take advantage of people who have already made the decision, with or without demonic encouragement, to be intoxicated or practice techniques that place them in altered states of consciousness. God Bless,
