Question:

As a follow up to the question; I guess what you're saying is that what I may have seen is most likely some sort of illusion. Do you think there is a specific reason for this or is what I sometimes see completely psychological?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r)

Dear Anastacio:

Well, I really do not know if your experience was a psychological illusion or a spiritual event. I would have to interview you and know more about the whole circumstance.

As a psychological illusion, one does not have to have a psychological disorder to experience it. Our minds are very suggestible. So, for example, if you read about this phenomenon before you experienced it, what you read may have influenced your experience.

The street slang for this is that someone can "psyche themselves out." We see this all the time with clients. A client may watch a "ghost" movie and then claim to see a ghost later that night. In such cases, there is no ghost, only the suggestion of a ghost by patterns of light and dark in the room, or the way a curtain hangs, or whatever. Our brains look for patterns. If the "pattern" just implanted in the brain was ghosts in a movie, then that pattern is fresh on the mind and the mind (imagination) will interpret as a ghost all sorts of things.

When I was a kid, if someone saw the number "7" everywhere he turned, we would say that he "had 7's on the brain."

In your case, perhaps you did sense something about these people, but then interpreted their faces in the way you did because of what you read about this.

Or, maybe you did see them with spiritual eyes and that is how they appeared. This does happen. I have experienced it myself.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
