Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OMSM(r)
Dear Kelly: Of course, those matters which are psychiatric or psychological need to be dealt with from within those professions. With that said, it is possible to have an overlap into the demonological. Most often demons hitchhike on problems that already exist. Those who are mentally ill or emotional compromised in whatever way can be vulnerable to demonic harassment. Should there be cases of that, the spiritual aspects must be dealt with by your patients from a spiritual point-of-view if that is possible -- prayer, devotion, faith, Sacraments, spiritual warfare prayer, etc. As for protecting yourself from any demonic transference that might occur between your patients and yourself, I would advise a slightly modified version of the Hedge Prayer of Protection found in our Spiritual Warfare Catalog:
You can use prayers in the Catalog, by the way, to pray for your patients. God Bless, For information on how to receive help see our Help page. We suggest that before contacting us directly for help you try the Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance. These self-help steps will often resolve the problem. Also our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog contains many prayers that may be helpful. If needed you can ask for a Personal Consultation.
