Question: I was wondering what the cause of sinful dreams are and how to be set free from them. I have been having a lot of impure dreams lately and know they are related to the sins of my past, but I was wondering if there is an actual spirit behind them. Could a spirit of lust be causing me to have such dreams? I heard from other Christians that a spirit of lust is at work when one is having such dreams. I just want to know the Catholic view on this. I also would like to know how to be set free from these dreams. Do I have to pray and fast in order to be delivered? Is it sufficient if someone else prays and fasts for me? I know deliverance is not immediate, but I just would like to know the formula that will lead to me being set free completely. Thank you for your help with this. God bless.
Question Answered by Dear Alex: Be assured you are not sinning. Dreams are not sinful since they are beyond our control and thus no sin is committed. Impure dreams are rather normal and a result of our concupiscence as a result of Original Sin. In situations where impure thoughts are frequent and bothersome it is always possible a spirit of lust is involved. My recommendation is to pray the Prayer to Control Thoughts, the Bedtime Prayer of Protection, and the Rebuking Particular Spirits all found in our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog linked below. On the Rebuking Prayer you will be rebuking the "spirit of lust" and replacing it a "spirit of purity" in the places in the Prayer that ask for that information. Question:

I was wondering what the cause of sinful dreams are and how to be set free from them.
