Question Title Posted By Question Date
Is it the work of the devil? GJ Saturday, July 17, 2010

Question:

I have two sons whom I love very much but at times I keep getting thoughts of hurting them, for e.g. if I see a sharp object, I imagine sticking it in their eyes. I strongly push away such thoughts away Till date I have never harmed them in any way. But these thoughts keep popping up in my head. Is this the doing of the devil?

Secondly, I keep imagining that my dad who has passed away 2 years ago is in different places and corners of my house. I feel he is there watching me, or giving me an evilish grin. What's going on? I loved my dad very much and I know he would never harm me so why am I having these thoughts?

When I had some one pray over me, evil thoughts entered my head at that very moment.

Please help

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear GJ:

Such thoughts as you are having about your sons is of great concern. Coupled with the "visitations" of your father (which is more likely to be a demon in disguise), and evil thoughts coming into your head when someone prays over you, there is a possibility of demonization or mental illness or both.

I would advise you to see a doctor about this for any possible medical cause of these thoughts.

On the spiritual side, I advise you to pray the Prayer to Control Thoughts in our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog linked below and also to follow closely the Seven Steps to Self-Deliverance also linked below.

If these events are demonic, then there is likely to be elements in your life that allowed the evil one to sneak into your yard. It is critical to find those "holes" in the fence and patch them up, dedicate yourself to Christ and His Church, and live as a good Catholic doing all the things that good Catholics do. The Seven Steps will help you to do that.

We will be praying for you.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
