Question Title Posted By Question Date
A Prayer/plea for liberty Lisara Sunday, January 17, 2010

Question:

Today is mass day for me. I went to confession Thursday for having missed mass for a month--essentially ALL of Advent--due to emotional difficulties and spiritual difficulties, emotional and spiritual difficulites seem to mesh to me.

Whether there are demonic influences involved or NOT, nevertheless I AM having a spiritual/ emotional battle getting myself to go to church or even pray interiorly. I was doing fine for the past couple of days after going to confession, but today that I HAVE to go I am thinking stuff I can't quit thinking and it is bothering me. I feel like just sleeping PAST the time of having to GO to church until afterwards like I have done in the past, so that I will miss mass again. I am FORCING myself beyond this to GO. I don't want to get angry. I don't want to miss, although it would definitely ease this discomfort.

I am WRITING you as an appeal to HELP me by PRAYER so that I may have more liberty and light heartedness in going to mass in time. I am also writing as a prayer. I KNOW I NEED to go receive Jesus in Holy Communion. I KNOW it will do me good. I want for every time that I receive Christ to be a step toward inner-liberty. Please don't stop praying for me. And I will never forget you or anyone else who prays for me. May Christ offer us ALL the liberty we need to recieve Him. Amen

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Lisara:

Sorry to hear about these difficulties. Your "forcing" yourself is the right thing to do. Our faith is not about emotional states and feelings, but about decisions of will.

I would suggest you pray to Mother Teresa. She can help you. She suffered all her life with a dryness and doubts whereby she had to force herself to kneel before the Blessed Sacrament, for example. While your struggles may not be the same as hers, the part about her forcing herself to do devotions and such means that she can intimately understand what you are going through.

I would also advise you to check out our Spiritual Warfare Prayer Catalog, linked below. It contains a Prayer to Control Thoughts, Bedtime Prayer of Protection, Rebuking Particular Spirits, and much more. You may find it helpful.

I also recommend praying to St. Dymphna. She is the patron saint of those with emotional and spiritual difficulties. That link goes to a page with her picture, prayers to her, and her story.

We will also be praying for you and place you on our permanent prayer list.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
