RE: God and the supernatural. Jay Friday, October 16, 2009

Question:

Dear Brother Ignatius,

I get what you are saying, but I am going to have to disagree. I have had many accounts where my dreams play out before me to the last detail. Come to think of it, witchcraft in the whole... magic is not something from the devil or an act against nature with demonic aid. In a whole, it as a human ability.

As for the whole Homosexual thing, seriously, no sex, no masturbation... I am sure that if it was such a big issue, Jesus Himself would have mentioned something. The nice thing about Christianity... "What you hold true on earth, I shall hold true in Heaven..." Church Dogma is changeble. Christmas is a Pagan festival The Rebirth of the Roman Sun God, or something like that, yet Christians celebrate it Halloween (or Samhein) is Pagan in origen, yet the Church changed it to All Hallows Eve. The Roman Emperor Constantine himself said "the myth of Jesus served me well!" after he ordered a couple of selected scolars to construct a Bible from a bunch of ancient scrolls and using the Christians in his war. So, I am not convinced that any of this is means anything. "The Kingdom of Heaven in in you and all around you, not in buildings of wood and stone. Split a piece of wood and there you'll find me, lift a stone and there I am." Or something similar. Those were Jesus' words. Yes, I know some of those gospels are said to be heresy, but when it comes to the Catholic Church... I do not trust or easily believe anything it teaches. God only knows why they didn't burn al the churches to the ground back then.

No offence Brother, I have nothing against you or your faith. I have nothing against God or His Word. What I do have a problem with is the church and th ecrap they teach people.

I have seen homosexuality in nature. I have seen a Wiccan exorcist rid a house of a demon (or malovalent spirit). I get that faith is a powerful thing, but who are we to say that Buddah isn't the all powerful God... Krishna, maybe Zues, Ra, mayby Osiris, his Virgin wife Isis with their son, Horus who died on the cross preaching his Father's word to the world. Maybe we have it all wrong. What then?

Sorry, your little preach about homosexuality did get me worked up a bit. I do not care what the church have to say about who I have sex with.

Thank you though, for clearing up the supernatural thing. I understand that only God can be supernatural.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Jay:

I am sorry to hear that you think your opinion, of a mere human, outranks God's opinion. This is a Catholic Q&A yet you post here? Odd. Given that this is a Catholic Q&A, I give Catholic answers; what do you expect? Those Catholic answers that are official Church teachings, as I have discussed with you about sex and homosexuality, are not my opinions, but the commandments of God.

This reminds me of what God said about this arrogance of yours in the book of Job, when God responded to man's impertinence (Job 38:1-18):

Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind: "Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Gird up your loins like a man, I will question you, and you shall declare to me.

"Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements--surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone, when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

"Or who shut in the sea with doors, when it burst forth from the womb; when I made clouds its garment, and thick darkness its swaddling band, and prescribed bounds for it, and set bars and doors, and said, 'Thus far shall you come, and no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stayed'?

"Have you commanded the morning since your days began, and caused the dawn to know its place, that it might take hold of the skirts of the earth, and the wicked be shaken out of it? It is changed like clay under the seal, and it is dyed like a garment. From the wicked their light is withheld, and their uplifted arm is broken.

"Have you entered into the springs of the sea, or walked in the recesses of the deep?  Have the gates of death been revealed to you, or have you seen the gates of deep darkness? Have you comprehended the expanse of the earth? Declare, if you know all this.

The rest of the chapter goes on like this. God is our creator and the creator of the Universe. It is He, not you, or me, or the Church, who determines what's what, what is natural, what is normal, what is sin, and what is righteous. God is the creator of sex and marriage, He is the God of all knowledge. We are nothing, except in our own arrogant eye.

You say that you are a Christian, but now you say have "nothing against God or His Word". That is a lie. You have everything against God's word, because you deny it.

God's Word says:

(Deut 18:9-12)  "When you come into the land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations. There shall not be found among you any one who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, any one who practices divination, a soothsayer, or an augur, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a medium, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For whoever does these things is an abomination to the LORD; and because of these abominable practices the LORD your God is driving them out before you. (RSV)

(Deut 18:10-11)  Here are things you must not do. Don't sacrifice your children in the fire to other gods. Don't practice any kind of evil magic at all. Don't use magic to try to explain the meaning of warnings in the sky or of any other signs. Don't take part in worshiping evil powers. Don't put a spell on anyone. Don't get messages from those who have died. Don't talk to the spirits of the dead. Don't get advice from the dead. (NIrV)

(Deut 18:10-11)  There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,  Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. (KJV)

God's Word also says Romans 1:18-32:

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and wickedness of men who by their wickedness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. Ever since the creation of the world his invisible nature, namely, his eternal power and deity, has been clearly perceived in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse; for although they knew God they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking and their senseless minds were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man or birds or animals or reptiles.

Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever! Amen.

For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural, and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error.

And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a base mind and to improper conduct. They were filled with all manner of wickedness, evil, covetousness, malice. Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity, they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless.

Though they know God's decree that those who do such things deserve to die, they not only do them but approve those who practice them.

Furthermore, Jesus said in John 14:15: "If you love me, you will do as I command."

You have chosen to violate the commandments of God and involve yourself in witchcraft, even after hearing the truth, and thus commit a grave sin against the First Commandment. In addition, despite being told the truth you have decided to flip your nose at God concerning sex. Thus, you do not love God, you are hostile to God's word because you trample all over it.

You also blaspheme God in trashing His Church. Jesus, personally founded the Catholic Church, who do you think you are to trash her. Catholic dogma NEVER changes; no one can change it, not even a Pope.

Who do you think you are to spit on the words of Jesus in Matthew 16:18-19: "And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

God gave us the Church to protect the faith from corruption by people with their own agendas. The Church has protected that Faith of the Apostles, which can be proven by documentary evidence of manuscripts from the first three centuries of the Christian Faith in which the Church Fathers explained the faith. The Catholic Church has not changed those teachings in 2000 years.

Where did you get your "interpretations"? Where is your authority to interpret? God's word says that interpretation is not to be done privately (2 Peter 1:20): "First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation."

The interesting thing about Truth is that Truth is not dependent upon your opinion. Truth is truth despite your opinion.

You have been told the objective truth. It is now your decision to accept it or become futile in [your] thinking and [have your] senseless [mind] darkened. Claiming to be wise, [you] became [a fool].

Your immortal soul is at risk. I would advise you give up your arrogance and pride before it is too late and you find yourself separated from God forever.

We will be praying for your soul,

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
