Spiritual Attack? Tessie Friday, August 20, 2004

Question:

Dear Brother,

I had written you a few other letters about our parish and the strange things that happen with priests here, and we had discussed going through the church with holy water and sacramentals and praying the spiritual warfare prayers.

A week before we were going to do this, I suffered one of the worst bouts of crippling depression I've ever had--it was so bad, for the first time in 24 years, I took a leave of absence from work. I since returned to counseling and got my medication adjusted, am back to work and feeling better.

I guess my thought is, there really IS something bad down there, and they didn't want us to come and pray through the church and grounds. What do you think? I still think it's important, but I'd be lying if I didn't tell you it makes me a little nervous now. How can we protect ourselves and our families.? When I get depressed it's hard for me to focus to pray,it's kind of hit and miss, I need to focus and get back on track. Sorry for rambling.

Thank you for your time and all the good information on this website. God bless you.

Tessie

P.S. When I went to see the pastor (whom I have always felt intimidated by) to confess my despair, he gave me a beautiful cross of St. Benedict that had belonged to a very devout priest he was very close to, who had recently died, and told me if I wanted to ward off Satan, here was help from St. Benedict and Father. He just picked it up off his desk and gave it to me. I was amazed.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM+

Dear Tessie:

Your experience may have been a coincidence, but one of the things I have learned in the seventeen years I have been doing deliverance ministry is something I call the Law of Proximity.

The Law of Proximity applies to the evaluation of phenomena. If a negative event takes place in close proximity to some event or act that pleases God, advances the Kingdom of God, or advances one's personal spiritual growth, then what may normally appear to be a coincidence may not be one, but may be a demonic interference.

Now, this does not prove demonic interference, but the proximity gives a clue.

What you can do about this is to use the St. Benedict Cross. It is a powerful sacramental, use holy water to bless yourself, your family, and those who may be with you in dealing with the things you are dealing with in your parish. Pray the hedge prayers of protection found in our Prayer Catalog. Spend time before the Blessed Sacrament, in praying the Rosary, and perhaps even fasting before you attempt to go into battle (i.e. going through your parish church).

Even with all these things, God may allow the demons to attack you. If that happens you can KNOW that God has a reason for allow it. You can KNOW that you can handle it because God says He will not allow anything into your life that you cannot handle. God has promised this and God is not a liar, so you can KNOW this is true, even if you do not "feel" it to be true.

Persevere. That is the key to the Christian life, and certainly to spiritual warfare. Notice that the word "persevere" has the word "severe" in it. It means to hang on and endure the severity of what happens.

God will reward you and give you many graces for standing up to defend your parish against the nasties that seek to destroy your parish.

We will continue to be in prayer for you and your parish.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
