Question:

Dear Jacob and all readers.

Congratulations to you. As of May 11th you have been the host of this forum for 10 years! (certificate forthcoming)

We also congratulate you for being named "Volunteer of the Decade". It is about as rare as to win a $200 million lottery to have a volunteer with us for ten years.

Your work here has been great and much appreciated. Thank you for your service and your dedication to the Church.

God bless you,
Bro. Ignatius Mary

Question Answered by Mr. Jacob Slavek

Dear Bro. Ignatius Mary and readers,

What a nice surprise it was to read this after coming home from a long night of work... LOL "volunteer of the decade" is quite the honor, filled with humor yet very much appreciated. :-)

I consider myself lucky to be trusted to answer all these questions, but even more so I consider myself lucky to be CHALLENGED to answer them.  I firmly believe that the best way to learn something is to attempt to teach it.  Therefore I'll say I receive a lot of challenging questions over the years that forced me to dig deep into books that otherwise could be collecting dust and to make myself a more liturgically "literate" man myself.  For that, I have all the readers to thank for their help in my own little academic development.

Over the years you've kept me from becoming liturgically stagnant, which is a very good thing because coming very soon we have some very exciting changes coming in our celebration of the Liturgy with the new translation this Advent.  Personally I can't wait, there's no question that we will have a much more authentic celebration of the Holy Mass.   But, whenever there is major change there is usually much confusion and probably even dissent.  But I think right now there is no doubt that the future is more bright than dark for our sacred worship, and i am privileged to be here to help in any way I can to offer support.

Thanks again,

Mr. Slavek

(b) There is no such Mass called the Novus Ordo. The Current Mass is the Roman Missal of 2000, or the Oridinary Form of the Mass. The Tridentine Mass is the Roman Missal of 1962, or the Extraordinary Form of the Mass. Please refrain from using the term, Novus Ordo. Thanks.

(c) The titles of Acolyte and Lector belong exclusively to the Installed Offices of Acolyte and Lector, who are men (only) appointed by the Bishop. These roles performed by others are Altar Servers and Readers, respectively.
