New Missal Clement Wednesday, May 5, 2010

Question:

Hi. I've read that the Holy See had approved the new missal, ie the Third Edition and it will be published soon. However, I have also read somewhere in the internet that the scripture to be used in the new missal is taken from the New Revised Standard Version- Catholic Edition of the bible. I'm rather confused, because I thought the Vatican had already revoked its permission to use the NRSV previously because of the inclusive language issue? Thanks in advance for your clarification.

Question Answered by Mr. Jacob Slavek

Dear Clement,

Could you please send me a link to the site that says that the NRSV will be used?  I went to the official site for updates on the new Roman Missal at http://www.usccb.org/romanmissal/ and I didn't see the NRSV mentioned or even that the Lectionary was being revised again.

I did a Google search and several unofficial sites came up that said the NRSV will be used.  It also would be helpful to know what country that you're posting from because different English-speaking countries may use different approved texts.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing back from you,

Mr. Slavek
