Reading a meditation before the actual readings | Cathy | Friday, October 23, 2009 |
Question: Hi, At my parish lately, they have had the readers that read the first and second readings give an explanation of the reading prior to actually reading it during Mass. I feel this is not a good thing, but am not sure how to go about fixing the problem. Any ideas would be helpful. Thank you. |

Question Answered by Mr. Jacob Slavek
Dear Cathy,Well the priest himself may give a very brief introduction prior to the first reading, but it sounds like in your parish the lector himself is reading a meditation.Anyway to answer your question, your concern would need to be sent along either to your pastor or if your parish has one, a liturgical coordinator/planner who may or may not be the priest. It should say on the front cover of your bulletin whom to contact with liturgical concerns, if not, simply call the priest or send him a note. Use your real full name, don't contact him anonymously.Thanks,Mr. Slavek Footer Notes: (a) A Eucharistic Minister is clergy (Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion). Laity are Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and should never be called Eucharistic Ministers. (b) There is no such Mass called the Novus Ordo. The Current Mass is the Roman Missal of 2000, or the Oridinary Form of the Mass. The Tridentine Mass is the Roman Missal of 1962, or the Extraordinary Form of the Mass. Please refrain from using the term, Novus Ordo. Thanks. (c) The titles of Acolyte and Lector belong exclusively to the Installed Offices of Acolyte and Lector, who are men (only) appointed by the Bishop. These roles performed by others are Altar Servers and Readers, respectively. |
