Re: The Anglican Breviary Bro. Ignatius Mary Thursday, April 9, 2009

Question:

Hi Mr. Slavek:

Just on clarification on the issue of the Anglican Breviary and the Latin version of the Office.

The Anglican Breviary can never be used since it is not an approved edition for Catholics. What Catholics may use is only that edition that has been approved for the country in which they live.

The Latin can always be used as Latin is the official language of the Church. We have a list of approved editions in English and in Latin:  Click Here

God Bless.

Bro. Ignatius Mary

Question Answered by Mr. Jacob Slavek

Dear Brother Ignatius,

Thanks for the clarification. I hope that no one got the idea from my original answer that they could be using the Anglican breviary for liturgical use, but this post should remove all doubt.

Mr. Slavek

Footer Notes: (a) A Eucharistic Minister is clergy (Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion). Laity are Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and should never be called Eucharistic Ministers.

(b) There is no such Mass called the Novus Ordo. The Current Mass is the Roman Missal of 2000, or the Oridinary Form of the Mass. The Tridentine Mass is the Roman Missal of 1962, or the Extraordinary Form of the Mass. Please refrain from using the term, Novus Ordo. Thanks.

(c) The titles of Acolyte and Lector belong exclusively to the Installed Offices of Acolyte and Lector, who are men (only) appointed by the Bishop. These roles performed by others are Altar Servers and Readers, respectively.
