Sacramental Chalice | Cathy | Saturday, January 24, 2009 |
Question: I have a footed wine glass (chalice?), cranberry colored with what apears to be an etched image of the sacred heart with "Holy indulgence" beneath it. These glass is approximately 6" tall. Does anyone have any information about the age and use or purpose of this class? |

Question Answered by Mr. Jacob Slavek
Dear Cathy, There are Sacred Heart chalices, but none that I know of that are made out of glass. I highly doubt that it's what you have since chalices generally aren't made of glass or colored red. I'm aware of the popular Sacred Heart devotion, which does involved indulgenced grants, but over the years I've never heard in it a reference to a wineglass. I guess my first question would be to ask where you got it. I'll post this on the forum in case anyone else knows immediately what it is and can help. Mr. Slavek Footer Notes: (a) A Eucharistic Minister is clergy (Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion). Laity are Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and should never be called Eucharistic Ministers. (b) There is no such Mass called the Novus Ordo. The Current Mass is the Roman Missal of 2000, or the Oridinary Form of the Mass. The Tridentine Mass is the Roman Missal of 1962, or the Extraordinary Form of the Mass. Please refrain from using the term, Novus Ordo. Thanks. These roles performed by others are Altar Servers and Readers, respectively. |
