Question:

I have been reading these forums for several years. I am happy to see that you have reopened them.

I have noticed that sometimes you receive alleged questions that are very hateful and anti-Catholic.

Do you ever reject questions?

Dear Sally:

Yes, we do reject questions sometimes. It is the policy of our Q & A Apostolate that any of our Hosts may reject a question that is rude, hateful, abusive, or argumentative. Normally, we leave this decision up to the discretion of the Host.

For myself, I tend to answer almost all questions regardless of how hateful or abusive they may be. But I do reject questions.

Generally, I will go ahead and answer such a question if I feel it has some educative value. If it has no educative value, or I am just weary of the nonsense that day, I will reject the question.

Those who post questions to our Q & A Forums should be aware of the Posting Guidelines and our Protocols and Rules.

I have copied a few of these protocols below that relate directly to abusive questions:

DO NOT FLAME: Expressions of hatred, slander, rash judgment, flaming, bashing the Church, its Bishops, Priests, Deacons, Religious, and Laity is grounds to have one's Question Submission rejected for uncivilized behavior. Similar behavior toward the Forum Host, our staff, or the Order of the Legion of St. Michael is also grounds to reject a Question Submission.

DO NOT DEBATE: Our Q&A Forums are not debate forums. Any submissions that, in the opinion of the Forum Host or the Q&A Manager, appear to have a motive of debate may not be published.

DO NOT EXPRESS BIGOTRY OR ASK LOADED QUESTIONS: Bigoted Statements and loaded questions are the fastest way to have a question rejected:

  • Bigoted Remarks are remarks such as, “The Pope is the Anti-Christ”, or “Catholics worship statues”. The Pope is NOT the Anti-Christ and Catholics DO NOT worship statues.
  • Loaded Questions are questions such as “Why do Catholics Worship Mary?” Catholics do not worship Mary.

If one cannot help themselves but to act in an unChristian manner as to make bigoted remarks or ask “loaded” questions, please go to the websites listed below. These websites have articles and pamphlets that address all these misconceptions that anti-Catholics are concerned about:

Footer Notes: (a) A Eucharistic Minister is clergy (Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion). Laity are Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and should never be called Eucharistic Ministers.

(b) There is no such Mass called the Novus Ordo. The Current Mass is the Roman Missal of 2000, or the Oridinary Form of the Mass. The Tridentine Mass is the Roman Missal of 1962, or the Extraordinary Form of the Mass. Please refrain from using the term, Novus Ordo. Thanks.

(c) The titles of Acolyte and Lector belong exclusively to the Installed Offices of Acolyte and Lector, who are men (only) appointed by the Bishop. These roles performed by others are Altar Servers and Readers, respectively.
