conduct during mass heather Saturday, February 25, 2006

Question:

I have been going to mass fairly often in the past year and after much soul searching, and research I am seriously thinking of converting. However I am never sure what to do during mass. Should I do what everyone else is doing such as using the holy water at the entrance of the church, kneeling before entering the pew etc.. At the time of communion should I go up for a blessing or just stay in the pew which seems as if I am saying no to God as I was always
a very active Lutheran, and felt that going up for communion was in fact saying yes to God. I am not in the classes yet for converting as they begin in the fall.

Question Answered by Mr. Jacob Slavek

Dear Heather,

Yes, you should bless yourself with holy water and genuflect before the Blessed Sacrament.

I personally don't care for the practice of going up for a blessing at communion time since it isn't mentioned at all in the documents. Besides everyone in attendance receives a blessing right before the end of Mass anyway.

Mr. Slavek
