rosary mishap... ben Friday, December 10, 2004

Question:

My congregation prays the rosary before mass and I was praying along and it snapped. The beads didnt fall off or anything but it is no longer in a continuous loop. (the clasp between two beads broke) Anyway is it ok to try to repair it? If it is repaired should it be re blessed? If it cannot be repaired or is not proper to do so what is the best way to dispose of it respectfully.
Thank you for your time.

Question Answered by Mr. Jacob Slavek

Dear Ben,

Yes absolutely go ahead and repair it.  It doesn't need to be blessed again.  If it cannot be repaired then bury it respectfully since it is a blessed object.  It is stilled blessed as long as it looks like a rosary, even if it looks like a broken rosary.

I suppose if you wanted to use this occasion to bless it again you could, but it really isn't necessary.

Thank you,

Mr. Slavek
