Re: Crusades Book recommendation Bill Friday, October 19, 2007

Question:

Bro Ignatius Mary,
God bless the work you are doing here. For Maries's question about a book for her son on the Crusades, as a historian and loyal Catholic, I recommend Prof. Jonathan Riley-Smith's excellent _What Were the Crusades?_. Riley-Smith is one of the foremost experts on the era and has written extensively. He is an emeritus professor of history from Cambridge University and is a Knight of St John (Order of Malta). This book is rather short, well written and not written for historians (we are a boring lot).

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary

Dear Bill:

Thanks for the recommendations. Other than the book, "Triumph," and the High School text "Christ, Lord of History," the only books I know are of the comprehensive and "boring" type :)

Here is a link to buy the book for anyone interested:

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
