Confession question, wondering if it was not valid | Maria | Sunday, April 27, 2008 |
Question: Hi, I went to confession yesterday, and the priest gave me a penance which was to say an Our Father and the Act of Contrition, but did not ask me to pray the Act of Contrition before he absolved me. Even the absolution formula was kind of odd. This is the same priest who changes words in the Mass, though not in the Consecration. Thanks for your help! God bless, Maria |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Maria: Your confession is valid. There are many priests these days that for some odd reason do not ask for an Act of Contrition. The priest at the parish I go to doesn't ask for this either. When that happens, just say an Act of Contrition before you do your penance. As to this priest's playing around with the words of the Sacraments, pray for this priest to mortify his pride and submit to the Church -- to shape up and fly right. God Bless,
