Question: Dear Brother; In their book section there is also a book that claims that there were messages from Jesus and an Icon of Soufanieh which exudes olive oil. This was in Damascus, Syria in 1982. The book is called "Light from the East" There seems to be many stigmatists these days. What do you think about this?

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Lynda: No matter how humble this so-called stigmatist is, no matter how many allege healings take place we do not know if his stigmata is real. Whenever any phenomena like this occurs there are always four possibilities to explain it: 1) it is psychgenically produced (or of other psychological origin) These same four possibilities go for the "healings" as well. The Church has not investigated this allege stigmatist that I can see. Thus, no one should presume that he is legit. Same with the messages from Jesus and some weeping Icon. Until they are investigated to determine validity they should not be considered legit. It is just too easy for Satan to produce these feats, and VERY easy for the mind to produce even stigmata, that we cannot accept these things unless they have been properly investigated. Genuine stigmata is VERY, VERY rare. There are a lot of people who "claim" stigmata, but few who really have it. God Bless, Footer Notes: This forum is for general questions on the faith.
