Re: Jealous God Tim Tuesday, April 15, 2008

Question:

Dear Brother Ignatius Mary:

I find it so sad that people impose their personal interpretations on the Sacred Scriptures rather than listening to what the texts actually mean.

When the poster (I'm not accusing her of doing this, though!) mentioned the misunderstanding of what it means that our God is a "jealous" God, your response was right on target.

However, it was interesting that is precisely because her "pastor" told her that God was a jealous God that Oprah stopped believing in the Christian God and fell into the New Age nonsense she spouts today:

Ah well, Christ always brings scandal and division -- look at John 6!!! The words were plain, Christ did not back down, but people refused to BELIEVE that such a thing were possible. It's reflected in today's Gospel reading, also from John, where Christ rebukes His adversaries who beg Him to "tell us plainly" if He is the Messiah. Jesus tells them He already has proven it and yet they don't believe (John 10:22-30).

If someone seems to know what a God of LOVE God is, then hears He is a "jealous" God, that person should, if they truly KNOW God, confide in the goodness and grace of God, realizing the term is not one of pettiness.

Let's pray for Oprah and all those like her, manipulated by our enemy and his tricks.

Love in Christ,
TIM

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Tim:

I agree. Misinterpretation of Scriptures has caused no end to needless misery, suffering, and division.

Oprah is a very sad person. I look at her and see a hollow person desperate to find substance. She is truly a lost little girl. The problem is that she is a power and influential lost little girl.

We certainly do need to pray for her soul and for her healing, for her to find the Love of Christ, the source of all the love that she is so desperately seeking.

And, we need to pray for the thousands, maybe millions of people who may be lead astray into her darkness.

God bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
