Is this wrong? | Matthew | Thursday, April 3, 2008 |
Question: Brother, I recently began talking with the Pro-Life division of USCCB to do some design work. Would it be wrong for me to use the photo site that The Sun pays for to obtain images for work that i'll be getting payed for by the USCCB? Or do i need to spend $500 to start my own subscription to the photo site? In other words, would i be doing anything wrong by utilizing the photo site that The Sun pays for to obtain images for my design work for USCCB? Thanks Brother. God Bless |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Matthew: Well, I have not read the license agreement the Sun has signed with the photo-service, but usually the license agreement allows the company or person who purchases the license to use the material according to the license provisions and for no other purposes. The photo service has licensed the Sun, not you personally, to use its images in the Sun's publications. For you to use those images for your personal projects outside of the Sun would be stealing. I suspect that you would be technically making yourself, and the Baltimore Sun vulnerable to copyright infringement, and jeopardizing your job. You need to buy your own license to use for your own personal projects outside of your job on the Sun. God Bless, Footer Notes: This forum is for general questions on the faith.
