Question:

Dear Brother Ignatius,

I just wanted to tell you and for all to read here that I have written to you at different times about various issues in my life that I struggled with. My human and fallen nature tried to justify my actions, but you were always there to set me straight, often times in ways that I too thought were pretty harsh...I even cried at one answer and felt even worse and like a total lost lamb. But --as you noted-- over time I realized you were right, and came to that very awareness of truth. Yes, you are pretty rough at times as I have read many posts on here. You mince no words and even for lack of a better phrase and to put it in a secular, though somewhat vulgar way, "rip people a new one". We need to know above all, the TRUTH. There is no getting around the truth our Church teaches us. No gray areas. We cannot allow our thoughts, words, and actions--no matter how we try to justify or place them under the veil of good intentions--to compromise this truth. We forget we all have to stand before Almighty God some day and give an account of our lives. Many of us need to just plain grow up and stop feeling sorry for ourselves if we are to be mature, faith-filled and obedient Catholics. I also want to say that no matter how "harsh" your words may seem at times, you always make it a point to encourage and assure us that GOD LOVES US.

I thank you for this most wonderful and spirit-driven website.

God bless you.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Janet:

Thank you for your testimony. Contrary to the opinion of some I do not try to be hard. Rather I respond in whatever manner I feel is needed.

Do I ever go to far? Yes, sometimes. Any style of relating can be taken too far and there are times that I make a mistake and go to far in the hard responses that I give. I do sometimes write a response several times to "tone it down" believe it or not. And even after it is published I do re-read my own responses to evaluate and double-check to see if I could have said things differently. Sometimes I will go back and edit an already published response. I do consider these things carefully.

I do not remember any responses to any of your queries, but I am glad that whatever I said was helpful to you even if it was hard to hear at first.

Whether the audience out there believes it or not, I take this job seriously and offer my responses with love.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
