about modesty... | jeffrey | Thursday, March 13, 2008 |
Question: brother ignatius, in our times, immodesty in dressing is everywhere. and i would say even in billboards (specially those who are endorsing undergarments and the like) sometimes i accidentally look at those billboards and look away at the instant, but i also fall sometimes and my mind becomes impure. is it enough to say in confession that i had impure thoughts and i placed my self in an occassion to sin? (i mean those pictures are not really porn...) hoping you can help me, thanks. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Jeffrey: I agree, the issue of modesty is a major problem today. It is impossible to avoid exposure (no pun intended). You are doing the right thing by looking away as soon as you notice something improper even if it is not porn. Whatever triggers your lust you need to avoid as much as possible. If you have "lustful imaginations" -- regardless of the trigger (can be things other than porn) -- then your confession is merely "Forgive me Father for I have sinned, I accuse myself of lustful imaginations and (if it is true) placing myself in the near occasion of sin." The Church only requires confessing the Kind and Number of our sins. It is not necessary to go into detail. God bless, Footer Notes: This forum is for general questions on the faith.
