Question: I was watching EWTN a few nights ago and they had a man who was a former protestant fundamentalist convert to Catholicism. One of the topics they touched on was concerning the Protestant belief in the rapture. I was raised Southern Baptist and the rapture teachings were something I assumed was taught in all Christian denominations. It seems that some sects of the Charismatic movement are particularly obssessed with it. I used to help out with the youth group in my church and they were always showing them the Left Behind series. What is the Catholic teaching concerning endtime events? Seems as if every generation of Protestant evangelicals have some members who are convinced that we are living in the endtimes. Personally my view on this is that God makes it clear in the Bible that no man knows the time or the season and that basically we should live the best Christian life possible, keep our eyes focused on Jesus and just not worry about it.

The forum is called Eschatology. There you will find two threads, "Catholic understanding of Mt.24: 40-42" which deals directly with the Rapture and "What's your philosophy on end times? As to when the end will come, the Catholic Church believes the same as you -- we do not know so let us be ready each day to meet our Lord (which will come anytime if we walk in front of a bus or have a heart attack), "keep our eyes focused on Jesus and just not worry about it."
