Beatification of Cardinal Stepanic by JP II in 1998 Martin Saturday, February 23, 2008

Question:

What is the truth about this?

I have read about the Croatian Ustashi by Edmund Paris, Genocide in Satelite Croatia 1941-1945, under the Nazi leadership of Ante Pavelich. Paris states that there were Catholic clergy involved in the mass extermination of Serbs one being Cardinal Stepanic. Can you clarify any of this?

Below is a link about the Cardinal that is obviously anti-Catholic.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Martin:

[NOTE: I have edited this response and refer people to the next post, In Defence of Blessed Aloysious Stepinac, which gives details about the Cardinal.]

I have deleted the actual URL to the site you posted. It is a extreme hate site that people do not need to see. The hatred spewed on that site is just as evil as the Nazis they hate.

One of the things I see about Nazi hunting is that it tends to be based, in many cases, upon a blind hate and not upon facts or upon an understanding of the full circumstances of the events. There is a blind rage for revenge at all costs. This is not of God.

[For the details of the case of Cardinal Stepinac see the next post, In Defence of Blessed Aloysious Stepinac]

I have little respect for these Nazi hunters anymore, and do not presume that these courts who convict alleged Nazis are securing justice. The hatred about this subject bring many of these courts to be little more than "kangaroo courts" as appears to be the case with Cardinal Stepinac.

Truth and justice cannot survive the petri dish of hatred and lust for revenge.

The bottomline is that...

1) charges of war criminal are often made flippantly and many of of the courts are a sham obsessed with an evil hatred and desire for revenge. We cannot fight the evil of Nazism with the evil of hatred and revenge. Lynchmob mentality kills innocent people.

2) the Church does not make Saints flippantly. The Church carefully investigates a candidate for sainthood and only beatifies those who deserve it. If the canonization process progresses successfully and the Cardinal is made a Saint that is an INFALLIBLE DECLARATION on the part of the Pope. There is no such thing as a mass murderer (as that idiot on the webpage you posted suggests) being made a Saint.

God bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
