Priesthood and age | George | Thursday, January 10, 2008 |
Question: I completed my first theology years ago and have a minor in philosophy. I am 60. I need some advice. I still have a spiritual life and really want to return to the seminary. Could you give me some advice. Would you return to the seminary or remain a layperson? Any advice would be helpful. Thank you. I would like this answered by email only. Thank you. |

Dear George: I am sorry but we cannot answer Q&A's by email. I have made changes to some of the details in your post and changed your name so as to protect your anonymity. As for your question: If you feel called to the priesthood, by all means contact the Vocations Office of your Diocese and make arrangements to go back to seminary to complete whatever you need to complete and go on to the priesthood. There have been 70 year olds in seminary and ordained. The issue is the same for you as it is with any man -- do you feel called? If yes, then pursue it and see where the discernment process takes you. God Bless,
