Deacon as a Godparent | Jennifer | Saturday, November 24, 2007 |
Question: Our close friend is a deacon and will be baptizing our baby after she is born in February. My question is can he also be a godparent since he is the one performing the sacrament??? We have another godparent (a woman), but would very much like for him to be a godparent also. Thank you for your help! |

Dear Jennifer: To my knowledge the Deacon cannot be both the minister of baptism AND godparent at the same time. You can double-check with the Pastor, but I think the Deacon will have to be either the minister or the godparent, but cannot be both at the same time.
