Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Carol: The whole point of the Sacrament of Confession is to confess our mortal sins and have them forgiven thereby restoring us to a State of Grace (which means we are restore to a state of being heaven-bound). God is merciful and loving. He always gives us a way to restore friendship with Him. He gives us the Sacrament of Confession in order to gives us a way to salvation, to restore our souls to a state of saving grace when we have sinned. Your sin of adultery no longer exists. When you brought that sin to the Sacrament of Confession and the priest absolved you, this sin was erased from your soul, it no longer exists, your soul was cleaned and restored to a state of grace. As long as you confess your mortal sins in the Sacrament of Confession you are heaven-bound. The who go to hell are those who die with mortal sin on there soul because they refused to confess their sin. You are NOT refusing. You confessed your sin. You are not condemned. Be not afraid. God loves you and He has forgiven you. Forgive yourself. God Bless, Footer Notes: This forum is for general questions on the faith.
