not going to mass... | Omar | Saturday, October 6, 2007 |
Question: Hello Brother, If a person does not attend church regularly, is the lack of attendance in and of itself a mortal sin? Thanks and God Bless. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Omar: Celebration of the Most Holy Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation are serious obligations on the part of every Catholic. Failure to go to Mass on Sundays or Holy Days of Obligation is grave sin. The only exceptions to the Mass obligation is in the case of illness, infirmity (such as an elderly or handicapped shut-in), or if one is required to work on Sunday, or some other legitimate cause that prevents attendance. Saturday Vigil Mass will count as one's Sunday Obligation. God Bless,
