Re: External Beauty and Self Esteem | Carol | Friday, September 28, 2007 |
Question: May I comment on this topic? Although considered pretty, I too had low self esteem. This was the "diagnosis" by various helping professionals, the hind-site excuse for many bad choices. UNTIL I 'heard' a very simple truth during my prayer time: Our Lord was not asking me to put on a Jesus mask, and play a bit-role as a Jesus impersonator. He called me to be an authentic Child of God - uniquely my self. Self worth came as I attempted to become the hero of my own story, the story that every thought and action wrote in the Book of Life. When I embraced the authentic pain that doing so cost me, I embraced the True Cross. And when I failed, I forgave myself with the same generous tenderness He expected me to give others. I began to feel beautiful inside and out, and in doing so, began to reflect the joy, peace and freedom of a true disciple of Christ... and know shameless self esteem. |

Dear Carol: Thank you for your testimony of your experience with this topic. I only wish our culture would allow girls to grow-up without all these false ideas about beauty that causes them such pain; and also allow boys to grow-up understanding that real beauty is inside.
