Question: Hello. I was baptized in a Catholic Church when I was a baby. I converted over to Protestantism when I was 28, where I was again, baptized. I thought that the Catholic Church wasn't the Church that Jesus Christ established on Earth, so, I tore-up my Catholic Baptism Certificate. 10 Years later, I now realize that I was wrong in leaving the Catholic Church because of the Writings of the Early Church Fathers. I want to return to the Catholic Church. I want to be re-baptized into the One and Only True Holy Catholic Church that Jesus Christ and the Apostles established. Can I return and be re-baptized, confirmed and take communion again. |

Dear Nick: I praise God that you are returning to the Catholic Church. Welcome back. Valid baptism can only be performed once, thus the baptism you received as a Protestant was ineffectual. All it did was make you wet; you were already Baptized. In returning to the Catholic Church, since you are already validly baptized, you need not be baptized again. If needed, the parish in which you were baptized will have a record. What you need to do is to approach the priest of your local priest and tell him that you wish to return to the Church. He should then guide you into what you need to do -- make a Confession, for example, and, if not already done, make arrangements for Confirmation. He may want you to join the RCIA class this Fall. That would be a good idea anyway. Do not receive Communion until you have actually come back to the Church and participated in the Sacrament of Confession. Your local priest can guide you in this. Again, welcome back. May God bless you, Footer Notes: This forum is for general questions on the faith.
