Question:

Hi, and thanks be to God for all you do here.
My parish priest has been away a month and in the meantime my 9 year old daughter claims she has experienced apparitions of Jesus over the last two Sundays.

She is a good child, and my husband and I are praying about it, though it may never happen again.

The replacement priest could not help much but advised us to pray, as he does not know the family. I did briefly see my parish priest for about two minutes this weekend, I handed him an envelope with all she had told me. He said, "She is of the age when this soften happens in young girls..." We couldn't speak longer, I just clammed up because I love my daughter so much, and I didn't want to impos on his time while he is meant to out of the parish. waiting is hard and I have some conscerns, I would like to understand more.

Can you please expand a bit for me on this phenomena and what he means? I think I read in passing an article once a long time ago about something similair to his comment.

God bless, and thankyou.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Mary:

I do not know what the priest means that your daughter is at the age of "soften" unless he means that she is of the age whereby she is particularly open to and susceptible to the spiritual.

Unless your daughter is revealing messages from this apparition that are contrary to the Faith, I would not worry about it for now. Your daughter may be blessed by this personal attention from our Lord.

As parents I would advise that you pray asking God to protect your daughter from any "angel of light" that would pretend to be Jesus. Ask God to give her only those experiences that are within His will.

This may only be a short-term experience. If she keeps having apparitions, then I would advise finding a spiritual director who is knowledgeable about private revelations and mystical experiences to guide you.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
