Question: The only reason I decided to read this book was because my daughter's 4th grade teacher was reading it to the whole class. I always read the books my children want to read before they get them. I like to know the content and decide if it's appropriate or not. At first I thought, this book is not going to be appropriate due the the fact that many people kept telling me it was bad for my children due to the the fact that it has to do with sorcerer's and the like, but once I got into the book I found that it was just a really interesting adventure that wouldn't harm my child's mind. We both liked it so much we had to see the movies. If you think something wrong with the books well your just iggnorant and bigoted and need to focus on REAL problems in the REAL world nuff said as you sit on your duff in the cloister condeming all for not thinking as you do. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Valerie: Harry Potter is a book that is written from the worldview of witchcraft. It teaches a way of looking at the world that is derived from witchcraft. This is contrary to Church teaching and contrary to the Christian ethic and worldview. No Christian has any business allowing their children to read this book and see the movies. I am sorry to see that you have been hoodwinked by the devil into believing this book is benign. However, it is one thing to disagree with this point, it is another to go into a immature 14-year old tantrum. I think we need to consider your intelligent analysis of Harry Potter, and of me, to see where your "knowledge" lies. May God have mercy on your children.
