The town Ave Maria | Nan | Tuesday, July 24, 2007 |
Question: I understand that the town thtas being built by the Dominos guy Ave Maria is no longer going to be a Catholic mecca. It seems that after a rash of law suits about the town not alowing sale of codoms and birthcontrol pills and not allowing porn channels on cable the Dominos guy caved to the ACLU and is grudgingly alowing these things. If the mormons and Quakers and Omish can have thier towns free of things that violate thier religeouse teaching why cant Catholics. Instead news papers called it a Catholic Jones Town. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Nan: The only reports I have seen on this matter was about the ACLU "keeping watch" on the town. The legal matters have not been fully analyzed as yet. I am not aware of any lawsuits. I think, but I could be wrong, that the media is exaggerating the issue somewhat. But, for sake of argument, why can't Catholics have a place where things like contraception and pornography are not allowed? and yet the Amish, Quakers, and Mormon can get by with it? Well, because we are Catholic. It is a double-standard applied to Catholics. Other religious groups may be able to do something, but "garsh darn it, we ain't goin let them papist fellers get by with it." This sort of things happens because of bigotry and hypocrisy. It is the way of the world. God bless,
