Why is the church so divided | ted | Thursday, June 28, 2007 |
Question: Are we not ALL created in the image of god our father and is it lawfull to quote the bible yet not follow the teachings of christ, has the word of god become so complicated that it is impossible for the average man to follow its understanding?did god not intend for ALL men to follow him, then why does the church put so many demands and conditions in following him,and doesnt that lead to even more fragmentation of the church? Is that not why christ came to fulfill the law, because man is incapable of of any laws except his own?Is not the only law that really means anything "love your neighbor" enough? |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Ted: The True Church is not divided. The Catholic Church, which is the True Church in the fullness of the Faith and founded by Jesus Christ personally, is universal and undivided. We have a common faith, a common baptism, a common and unified Church. The disunity comes with the non-catholic Christian groups. They are fragmented because they have gone their own way ignoring the Mother Church. They developed their own brand of Christianity that in many respects was and is inconsistent with the teaching of Jesus and his Apostles. If we wish unity and integrity and simplicity in the faith, then we must come to the Catholic Church. The only law that matters is the Two Great Commandments: Love God with all your heart, soul, and body; and love your neighbor as yourself. But we have to define love. 1 Corinthians 13 gives us a definition of love. The application of love Jesus said in the Book of John means that if we love Him we will follow his teachings. Jesus taught we are to be one, not many. To be one, we must be part of His Church, the Catholic Church. So the answer to your query is found in the Catholic Church, and in the Catholic Church alone. God Bless,
