Question: Hi, Do you know anything about Melissa Scott? She is a pastor and is on tv. She seems to be very anti-religion. Thanks for your help. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Teresa: Melissa Scott is the wife, I believe the third wife, of Dr. Gene Scott, the laid-back, cigar smoking, cussing, redneck-type, preacher who preached a Prosperity Gospel to milk the public of money and to fill his own pockets. He would tell those who refused to send money to "vomit on yourself with your head up in the air." Gene Scott died in 2005 and Melissa, from what I understand as flipped out in a frenzy of greed (even more intense than before). She preaches also a Prosperity Gospel but, from what I understand, in a way much more ostentatious and obvious. She is, as many television preachers are, anti-organized Church. So was Gene Scott, who was originally ordained by the Assemblies of God. He resigned his credentials, in good standing, and went out on his own where he could do his thing without scrutiny of anyone. I do remember seeing Gene Scott on TV. He was somewhat entertaining to watch. His language was crude and abusive earning him criticism as not behaving in a Christian manner. He didn't tolerate such criticism and would say of his critics, "They never stop! These judgmental asses!" Some called him the religious Rush Limbaugh. His pontifications where extensive about most anything that came to his mind. On the Gulf War he advocated "nuke 'em in the name of Jesus." He was, however, a staunch advocate of the Resurrection and would preach great and convincing sermons about the Resurrection. He considered people who denied the Resurrection to be idiots. Whatever his in-your-face pontifications may be he always returned to the bark of, "Get on the telephone!", which was his way of telling people to call in to give him money. He lead a lavish lifestyle. Gene Scott was highly educated with a Ph.D. from the prestigious Stanford University in California and was multi-talented. He wrote some 20 books, was a philosopher, philanthropist, philatelist, equestrian, bibliophile, and an artist with more than 1000 watercolors that received critical acclaim in the art world. His third wife, Melissia, has none of these credentials, none of the character of her husband, which leaves her with nothing but unabashed and ugly greed. Gene Scott was an interesting character and actually did contribute something, made significant donations and support to charitable projects such as the Los Angeles Central Library Save the Books telethon, Rose Bowl Aquatics Center, and the "Rebuild L.A" foundation. While all this does not really redeem him from his greed, at least he was a complex man. Melissa is just a trivial money-grabbing idiot.
