Just a follow-up on the priest mentioning for us to bow instead of genuflecting. My husband and I both read your reply and thought about it a lot. When we next went to Mass at the same parish again, I made a profound bow before receiving, my son genuflected and my husband went down on one knee. We received Our Lord from a deacon but the priest could see us.

After Mass my husband mentioned to the priest
that it was easier for the person giving Holy Communion to reach down as he was kneeling and more sanitary as the deacons fingers didn't touch his tongue which they usually did when he stood to receive. The priest started to say something about it but stopped and just said "Do whatever you want" about the posture he uses.

This priest is a young priest and this is his first parish. Many of the changes he has made are great. He ordered new, reverent, vestments, took all the extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist off of the altar when Mass is said. They sit in a front pew and come up only at Communion time. He also has the "folk" group that played music play up in the choir loft instead of setting up in front with speakers and all.

I wanted to correct any wrong impression I might have given about him. Thanks for your well thought out and researched reply.
