Question: what is the church's stand regarding sodomy between a married couple. I assist in conducting preparatory courses for engaged couples and have been asked this question which I really am not sure how to respond. The world today is so different from my time in the past and young people are so much more open with their thoughts. Please enlighten me as I personally find this a very embarassing topic. Thank you. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
***** Dear Ann: Thank you for your question. This is a question many couple have. The first time I was asked this question I did not know how to answer it. So, I contacted Father William Most, who has gone to be with the Lord now. You may recognize the name from EWTN. Anyway, Father Most was arguably one of the top moral theologians in the United States. If anyone would know the correct answer to this question it was him. The answer to the question is that as long as their is mutual consent between the husband and wife (which means no coercion even subtly) such sexual activity is permissible AS LONG AS the husband ejaculates vaginally. It is never permitted for the man to ejaculate outside of the vagina because to do so prevents the sex act from being open to life. So, yes, this is permitted with mutual consent and as long as the husband completes the act vaginally. God Bless,
