Celibate men giveing sex advice | Joan | Thursday, April 26, 2007 |
Question: It seems to me that a group of celibate men giving advice on sexual morality is moronic. That would be like going to the dentest for your heart condition. The church dosent have a great track record in dealing with sex particlarly sex and womens issues. After all in the churchs perfect world women would just be brood mares and silent in church. |

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Joan: I do not know what rock you have been living under, but the Catholic Church treats women better than any other institution. It was the Catholic Church, through the teaching of St. Paul, that raised the status of women to human being rather than the prevailing view of women as property. The Catholic Church, also through St. Paul, raised the dignity of women beyond that to that of spiritual equality with men. The Catholic Church recognizes the dignity of women so much that it venerates a woman and the NUMBER ONE disciple of Jesus, the first among all people, the queen and mother of us all -- the Blessed Virgin Mary. Pope Benedict just recently reflected on the importance of women in Church history:
In addition is the full Apostolic Letter by Pope John Paul II, On the Dignity and Vocation of Women Anyone asserting that women have a raw deal in the Catholic Church is either ignorant or brainwashed by feminist reactionaries or other idiots. This is not to say that individuals within the Church have not at times in history treated women less than they should, and certainly society has not always treated women well. Pope John Paul II mentions this in his Letter to Women in 1995. The bottomline is that both women and men are given the dignity to be all the God intends them to be. There is no other organization or culture on the planet that does this as completely and properly as does the Catholic Church. As for celibate men advising on sexual morality, one should remember that sexual morality was not invented by celibate men, it was invented by God. Those celibate men are only reporting what God has determined to be moral behavior. In addition, most Christian denominations agree with basic sexual moral theology. All those other denominations, however, have marred clergy. (Actually, the Catholic Church also has married clergy, too). But, this reveals that your comments have little intelligence but much prejudice and hatred. We will certainly pray for your healing. God Bless,
