Question:

Ok I read somewhere, sorry I cant remember the source. I think maby it was Sources of Catholic Dogma by Dr. Ott. That women had no right to an orgasem because only men egaculate naturely. Personaly Ithink what makes sex so beautiful is the exploreing between to couples. The give and take learning what makes the other tick so to speak. I for one could never be a part of a religeon that made such a foolish statement. That is if the statement was made to begin with. Or maby I misunderstood it.

Thanks for your help!

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Lita:

Wherever you read that it was NOT Sources of Catholic Dogma.

Such an idea is not now, nor has it ever been a Catholic teaching, let alone a formal dogma.

The very idea of proposing that women do not have a "right" to an orgasm is contrary to the Doctrine of Creation. God created the universe and everything in it. He declared his creation good. What God creates is good.

Sex was created by God and the faculty of pleasure that accompanies sex is also created by God. Thus, by definition and by doctrine, sex and its associated pleasure (and orgasm) by both genders is good. With that said, it should be noted, of course, that God created sex as an experience for marriage and only for marriage. Thus, sex outside of marriage is a perversion of God's intended purpose.

There were a few heresies in the early Church, I believe, who believed that the body was evil and thus sex was evil and thus pleasure in sex was evil. These heretical groups were condemned by the Church as being in error.

I think there were some Protestant aberrations, perhaps derivative of Puritans, that may have made claims like that.  I don't know. But the idea is NOT Catholic.

The Catholic Church teaches that married couples (er, that means a man and a woman who are married to each other) may enjoy each other in full as a mutual self-giving of each other in marital relations.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
