book of enoch | matthew | Monday, April 2, 2007 |
Question: thank you it seems that many of the early christian writers including the gospel writers and even Jesus himself took many themes from this apocryphal book. this is very disturbing to me. what really upset me was reading the introduction to the book of Enoch the prophet translated by Richard Laurence. the introduction was written by Lyman Abbott obviously not a catholic. anyway i would really appreciate if someone could find this introduction to this book and read it. perhaps it can be found online. i really am looking for someone to give my some commentary on his research. Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM
Dear Matthew: I cannot find the Lyman Abbott introduction thus I cannot comment on it. The Book of Enoch is an interesting look into some of the beliefs, practices, and thinking of the pre-Christian era, but it is not Scripture. The issue of the Book of Enoch is not important enough to get bent out of shape over. If this Lyman Abbott has some ideas that are decidedly unCatholic, just consider the source and move on.
