Question:

Dear respected brother,

I have looked over your website, especially the Q and A forum and have found it so heartwhelming to find some good orthodox Roman Catholic answers. For this i thank you.

In doing so, my love for orthodoxy has brightened. Im currently discerning a religious vocation and would really like to go to a place (seminary) to study good orthodox Catholocism. By now, im sure you have realised how weak my faith and knowledge of Catholicism really is. If not for anything else however, shed some comfort in my enthusiasm. Im also a bit of a fan of the Fransiscans of the Immaculate. Is there anywhere you would advise me to study?

Moreover, although im not intellectually slow, i have always struggled in "how to study". With you being obviously learned, is there any particular study methods you would encourage... for example, re-writting things out, etc???

I would like to be able to have the "power" to challenge people not only by my example (Even though that has ALOT of work to be done) but also my knowledge (and possibly one day - wisdom) of sacred scripture, the Holy Church, and Catholicism in general.

Your time and patience, is much appreciated. Thank you, and God bless,

Konrad (from Australia).

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Konrad:

I am not familiar with the seminaries in Australia, but I believe Archbishop Pell is doing a good job, from what I understand.

You need to talk with the vocations director of your diocese. He will guide you on what is needed to pursue a vocation. Or check with a monastery that interest you if you wish to pursue a religious vocation.

As for study habits, set a time to study and actually study during that time. Get away from distractions during that time (ie. T.V., radio, girls, friends, etc). Read over your assignment, then read it again a second time. The second reading mark important passages and take notes.

Most colleges have student services departments that have brochure and even classes on how to study. Check that out and see what services are offered at your college.

We will be in prayer for your vocation.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
