Are spouses reunited in heaven? Cathy Friday, January 28, 2005

Question:

When we die, and if we go to heaven, will we be reunited with our spouses?

I ask because I love my dear husband very much and am so grateful to God that He brought him into my life. It disturbs me to think that I will be separated from this loving, sweet man for eternity once we die.

I know that God is our focus in heaven, but I would hope that my husband and I could be in God's presence together, even if the concept of marriage ceases to exist as it did while we were alive.

Is there any hope that God will allow us to be together for eternity in His presence (hoping, of course, that we both get to heaven)? Thank you.

Question Answered by Bro. Ignatius Mary, OLSM

Dear Cathy:

In heaven there is no separation; there is unity. Yes, you will recognize and know your husband in heaven. You will know that he was your husband on earth.

You will not live as husband and wife as marriage is a faculty of this life only, but you will be in even a greater and more intimate union with your husband in heaven that can ever be possible on this earth.

Heaven is the most intimate place we can ever be. We will be in perfect union and intimacy with each other and with God that surpasses any human understanding. Love brings us together, it does not separate us.

So, assuming you both go to heaven, you and he will spend eternity together and with everyone else in the bliss of God's friendship and presence forever.

God Bless,
Bro. Ignatius Mary
